Project A - Iron Chef Design

Topic #3 - Favorite TV Show

What was your concept for this site?

A town where everyone knows everyone and nothing is what it seems. The Twin Peaks concept had inspiration from the characters, settings and even the music of the TV series. The color pallette of the first sketch would be subdued with a limited color pallette in order to convey the dark subject matter of the storyline. The second design would integrate the stoplight and its colors would be the centerpiece of the design, with round frames (coffeecups) as graphic devices within the layout. The third layout incorporated the diner, which was an important location of the show, as its pivotal design element.

A "drowning" layout which featured dark water as a backdrop, interspread with silhouettes of the pine trees that inhabit the locale. An eerie/dark design reflecting the subject matter. A stoplight theme which would be used to mirror the fast life and loves of character Laura Palmer. The diner, Laura Palmer's diary and "final" red curtains incorporated into a layout highlighting some of the most important objects relating to the Twin Peaks saga.

Which design did you choose and why?

I chose the "Diner" theme due to its importance in the storyline as the central location for information regarding to the murder of Laura Palmer. The placement of the central objects (curtains, diner objects and diary) would have to be handled creatively without having a "thrown on" look and feel.

What changes did you make to your revision and why?

I re-scaled the header, and using a new grid, tightened up the information in the middle to get a more symmetrical and pleasing design. I heightened the hierarchy of information and design elements by framing certain elements, and using "Twin Peak" colors in order give the type a more uniform feel. I thought about keeping the curtains for the footer but opted to make the footer type red in order to mirror the values and hues of the curtains.
